Wilson in Niagara Falls, NY

August 15, 2006 (wilson) Hi again! Yesterday we drove about half an hour from our KOA campsite to Niagara Falls, NY. (There really is a town called Niagara Falls). The falls are composed of 3 waterfalls, Bridal Veil (the smallest, but still big!), American Falls, and Horseshoe Falls (the largest of the 3 and also half U.S and half Canadian). First we got on a trolley to the Cave of the Winds tour. It takes you on a wooden bridge thing very close to Bridal Veil Falls. We got in line and they gave us these dorky water shoes and some ponchos that made you feel like you were walking in a trash bag. We put them on and went down in an elevator (the shaft is hand crafted and 175 feet deep!). We walked along the bridge thing (it’s almost like a very thin street) and came up to the Hurricane Deck where you get SOAKED by the falls! It was fun J.
Next we got some ice cream and went to Terrapin Point where you can look out at the Horseshoe Falls. We stayed there for about 20 minutes and caught a trolley so we could go to the aquarium that was nearby. We were practically on the trolley for as far as it can go, because the whole thing is one big loop! Even worse, in the middle of the ride, they stopped us for like 10 minutes so they could check if everyone had tickets. I kept thinking “Why didn’t they check them when everybody was getting on?!” Very convenient. When we finally got to the aquarium we watched this rather mean lady feed some harbor seals and went inside. It wasn’t the best aquarium that I had ever seen but it still was pretty good. It had penguins and an electric eel and piranhas and some cool chain dogfish (a kind of shark). After that, we finally left Niagara Falls and went to a cool RV park in the middle of nowhere. (We didn’t go on the Maid of the Mist, which is Niagara Falls’ famous boat because the people on it were packed like sardines). Mom and Dad were complaining that the Falls were really commercialized. It was pretty true (there must have been at least a million people), but I didn’t pay attention to the huge crowds, just the huge falls.
The RV park we stayed at last night was cool, it was right next to Lake Ontario. Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes, but it looks (and even smells!) like the ocean! We went on a nice long bike ride before checking out of it. While we were bike riding, Dad was pulling Alena in her tow-behind thing. When Dad’s phone rang, he said “Answer it Lena!”. So she did. And she talked. And talked. And talked! Everybody was cracking up! When we stopped, we found out it was Tori she was talking to.
Today we drove and drove and drove today, so no comment about that.
See ya! Note - blame my mom on the length of this blog. She said to make it detailed.
